A story of hope from the last few months is about a precious little boy named baby K and his mummy who live in Joe Slovo, our neighbouring community. The mum visited our Social Service Department for the first time with her TINY little man to se if we could support her.
When I first met him, I was praying that he would survive. Severely malnourished and underweight, with a diagnosis of Down Syndrome and a mum who was doing her best but was uninformed about how to best to help her son with special needs. We began to walk a journey of education and support including helping her apply for a grant to help support their financial needs.
When mum’s first grant arrived she promptly returned to SSD with a small donation to the team to say thank you. Baby K is slowly but surely growing and is full of smiles and is clearly being well looked after by his mummy. She also gave back to her community by serving in the kitchen for our recent Heritage Day celebration while I got to spend the day caring for Baby K. We are hopeful for the days ahead and praised God for the opportunity to help a mummy receive the support needed to be able to parent her extra special little boy.
