VOLUNTEER AT LIV DURBAN
Since the village was founded in 2011, volunteers have always been a greatly valued part of village life and in supporting our vision to see our children rescued, restored, raised and released.
Volunteers have served in many ways over the years – from short-term trips to long-term missional roles. If you would like to explore how you may be able partner with us through volunteering, we invite you to find out more about our current volunteer opportunities below.
Over the years, volunteering opportunities have seasonally looked different based on the emerging needs of our LIV family. Current placement in a volunteer role is based on the skills and experience of a volunteer, the specific needs of LIV departments as well as the duration of a volunteer’s service.
Short-term volunteer opportunities are currently limited as we are now able to offer intern roles to our growing number of ‘Released’ young adults, who have finished school or are enrolled in our training programmes to further their work experience.
To find out which current short-term and longterm volunteer roles are available, please see the current opportunites below. If you have any specialised skills or experience not listed, please do still get in touch with us – we may be able to identify specific opportunities from time to time.
Groups or mission teams can consider joining us for a few days or up to two weeks, to support with kids programmes over the school holidays or various projects in the different areas of village life.
We love welcoming corporate teams to our village. This is a great opportunity for team building and for your organisation to give back at the same time.
Projects vary depending on team sizes, budgets, and village needs, but you can expect a fun packed day of helping us make improvements in our school, homes, or other areas of the village.

Health & Safety Practitioner
We are looking for a long-term volunteer to support our Health & Safety Officer. Experience as an H&S practitioner is required.
Finance
There is opportunity for a bookkeeper or administrator to join our finance team.
HR
This is an opportunity for an HR practitioner to support in the HR team at LIV.
Psychologists
We need part-time or full-time psychologists to work with both children and adults (foster mothers, staff & volunteers). HPSCA registration required
Christian Counsellors
We are looking for part-time or full-time Christian counsellors to work with both children and adults (foster mothers, staff & volunteers). HPSCA registration required.
Registered Counsellors
We need part-time or full-time counsellors to work with both children and adults (foster mothers, staff & volunteers). HPSCA registration required.
Occupational Therapists
Join us part-time or full-time as an OT to work with our children (from ECD through to senior phase). OTs must be qualified & registered with a health professions council.
Play Therapists
We are looking for part-time or full-time play therapists to work with both children between the ages of 4 & 11 years. Therapists must be qualified & registered with a health professions council.
Speech Therapists
We are looking for qualified part-time or full-time speech therapists to work with our children. Registration with a health professions council is required.
Music Therapist
Must be qualified and registered with a health professions council.
Remedial Therapist
We have a great need for remedial support for learners in LIV School. Therapists must be qualified.
Agriculture
This is an opportunity to support in our technical & occupational curriculum for learners in LIV School.
Tutors
We would love to explore opportunities for our children to receive extra tutoring in Mathematics & English.
Admin Assistants
This is an opportunity to assist the school educators with administrative tasks like printing, photocopying and typing.
Music Teacher
This is an opportunity for a qualified music teacher to teach music to our children (foundation phase & intermediate phase).
Art Teacher
We’re looking for a qualified art teacher to join LIV School who could support all phases.
Sports Coaches
We have opportunity for extra support with netball, soccer & rugby coaching.
Doctors
We are looking for doctors who can volunteer part-time in the LIV Clinic to offer medical care to our foster mothers, children and staff.
Registered Nurse
This is an opportunity for a nurse to join our LIV Clinic team to provide medical care for our foster mothers & children, as well as our community through the Owethu Community Clinic.
Dentist
We are looking for a qualified dentist who can offer their expertise part-time to see to the dental needs of our foster mothers and children.
