Running for a Cause: Turning Passion into Purpose

Hi there!

My name is Bailey, and I am the Therapy Manager at LIV Cape Town. My heart beats for one thing: helping children heal from trauma.

You might wonder, “Why would a preschool have such a strong focus on therapy? Aren’t the children too young?”

The truth is, in South Africa, over 60% of children experience trauma before the age of 17. And because 90% of brain development happens before the age of five, these early experiences can shape – and sometimes limit – a child’s future. That’s why our therapy work at LIV Cape Town is so crucial. We’re not just teaching children; we’re helping them build the emotional foundation for a lifetime of healing and hope.

Running for Healing

Outside of therapy, one of my other great loves is running. A few months ago, I had a crazy idea: what if I combined my two passions – running and therapy – to make an even bigger impact?

I invited a few running friends to join me in raising funds for our Therapy Department….and before I knew it, over 70 athletes had joined the Run for LIV movement, competing across five different events.

You may have heard that the Cape Town Marathon was cancelled this past Sunday, but that didn’t stop us. We still ran the full 42.2 km together! Seeing so many runners in LIV shirts out on the course filled me with pride. There’s something truly special about spotting someone in the same t-shirt, that instant bond, that shared purpose.

To every runner who laced up, and to every donor who believed in our mission: Thank you. Your support fuels the healing journeys of children across Cape Town.

Looking Ahead: Cape Town Cycle Tour 2026

Next up, we’re shifting gears – literally! 🚴‍♀️
We’re already preparing for the Cape Town Cycle Tour in March 2026, and we’d love for you to be part of it.

If you’re a cyclist (or want to be!) and would like to ride for a cause, we’d love for you to join our LIV community. It’s a chance to pedal with purpose, knowing that every kilometre brings hope, healing and joy to children who need it most.

And if cycling is not your thing, you can still support by forwarding this email to your cycling buddies. Thank you for journeying with us – whether you run, ride, give, or cheer us on – you’re part of this story too!

With gratitude,
Bailey Allan
Therapy Manager, LIV Cape Town.

The El Roi Baby Home is currently closed as we are working fervently with DSD and our local municipality to re-register our home as a Child and Youth Care Centre. Please join us in praying for favour, provision, wisdom and peace as we wait on the process to be completed as soon as the Lord would allow. For more information about this process, please send us an email at [email protected].
