Content Creator & Storyteller — On-Site Ministry Team
Location:Â LIV Durban Village (Full-time, On-site, live-in ministry placement)
Reports to: Marketing Manager, working closely with the on-site ministry team in daily village life
About LIV Durban
LIV Durban exists to glorify God by serving the vulnerable children of South Africa. We provide a holistic residential environment where children can grow to their full potential in a safe, loving, and Gospel-centred community. Our marketing team exists to share these stories of transformation with authenticity, excellence, and creativity, inspiring hearts, partners, and supporters to join the mission.
Purpose of the Role
This is not a desk job that happens to visit the village, it is a ministry placement for a gifted storyteller who lives, works, and serves on-site. We’re looking for a creative all-rounder: someone confident behind a professional camera, capable of shaping raw footage into content that stops the scroll, and genuinely part of the daily rhythm of village life. Because the moments that matter most, a child’s breakthrough, a spontaneous devotion, an event as it unfolds, happen on the village’s schedule, not a 9-to-5 one. This role exists to share these moments in an effort to encourage and uplift believers and to share the Gospel.
The successful candidate will be woven into the everyday life of the village, present at devotions, events, and the ordinary moments in between, not just when there’s a camera in hand. It’s this closeness to the community, and the relationships it builds, that gives their storytelling its authenticity.
Key Responsibilities
1. On-Site Ministry Life
- Live on-site and serve as an active member of LIV Durban’s ministry team, present for daily village life, devotions, and events — not only scheduled “shoots.”
- Build genuine relationships with children, house parents, and staff — the trust that makes people comfortable in front of a camera.
- Share in the rhythms and responsibilities of on-site ministry staff.
2. Storytelling & Content Creation
- Capture high-quality photo and video content that reflects the heart of the LIV Durban story and the people who make it.
- Produce and edit compelling short- and long-form video (reels, highlight videos, testimonies).
- Build engaging carousels, posts, and stories tailored to each platform — primarily Instagram and YouTube, plus Facebook and LinkedIn.
- Turn stories into strong written content too — captions, newsletters, and reports — not just visuals.
- Collaborate with the Marketing Manager and campaign team on story ideas, angles, and creative direction.
3. Social Media Management & Analytics
- Manage day-to-day posting and community engagement across Instagram, YouTube, Facebook, and LinkedIn.
- Plan and schedule content that is consistent, on-brand, and platform-appropriate.
- Track and analyse performance (reach, engagement, growth) and use insights to sharpen the content strategy.
- Assist with basic paid social activity (e.g. boosting posts) and understand the fundamentals of ad spend, in partnership with the Marketing Manager.
4. Collaboration & Campaign Support
- Contribute creative input and content assets to fundraising and awareness campaigns.
- Supply the marketing team with a steady library of authentic photo and video content for use across newsletters, reports, and funding applications.
Skills, Attributes & Experience
Technical Skills
- Confident and skilled with a professional camera — photography and videography both.
- Proficient in video editing software (DaVinci Resolve, Adobe Premiere Pro, or similar).
- Strong working knowledge of Instagram, YouTube, Facebook, and LinkedIn, including current content formats and trends.
- Comfortable with social media analytics and the basics of ad spend / boosted content.
- Graphic design skills (Canva, Adobe Creative Cloud) are an advantage, though not required.
Personal Attributes
- Energetic, dynamic, and genuinely loves people — able to connect quickly and authentically across the village community.
- Creative and resourceful, with a strong eye for a story and the moment that tells it.
- Comfortable with a fluid, on-call rhythm rather than a fixed desk schedule.
- Self-driven, reliable, and a natural team player within a small marketing team and a wider ministry community.
Experience
- 3–5 years’ experience in photography, videography, or content creation.
- A strong portfolio demonstrating storytelling through photo, video, and social content is essential.
Faith & Ministry Fit
This role is, first and foremost, a call to ministry. The successful candidate will have a living, growing relationship with Jesus and a genuine desire to be part of an on-site ministry team, not simply to hold a job that involves faith-based content. They will demonstrate sensitivity in sharing the Gospel openly and truthfully, and a heart for the vulnerable children LIV Durban serves.
What We’re Looking For
Our ideal candidate is a Jesus-loving, skilled semi-professional creative who wants to become part of the LIV mission life — not just document it from the outside.
