Phamela and her husband came to the new LIV Cape Town ECD to enroll their daughter, Naledi. In speaking to them I learned that they have 4 children. I asked about work and both responded that they are unemployed. Her husband was retrenched at the end of 2022 and Phamela struggled to find work despite having a Matric qualification and a Driver’s Licence.
In that moment I felt prompted to ask if she would consider a position as a general cleaner. That same day she dropped in her CV and a few days later we met for an interview.
She has been such a blessing to us. Not only does she keep our school spotless, but she also assists our cook in the kitchen. She freely admits that what she most enjoys is interacting with the children. You will always see her on the playground when the children play outside.
She has also been assisting in the classrooms when teachers are absent. The teachers all agree that she has the potential to be a great teacher. We would love to be able to support her if she chooses to further her studies in the Education field.
Since Phamela started working for us her husband has also found employment. We are grateful that we can play a role in helping this family. Little Naledi is thriving! She holds the title of student with the best attendance to date.
