If you happen to visit LIV Lanseria during the workday week there is one spot in the Village where you will be sure to find children doing what children do best: making noise and having fun! We are blessed to be loving on over 65 precious little people at our Refilwe Preschool on any Monday – Thursday and we could not do it without our fantastic team of women who serve there. This April we were able to host the Refilwe Preschool team for a full day of training to better equip them with tools to help them feel better equipped to care for the children in their school.
One of the “toolkits” that we are using here at LIV Lanseria is TBRI® (Trust-Based Relational Intervention®), which is an attachment-based, trauma-informed intervention that is designed to meet the complex needs of vulnerable children. TBRI® uses Empowering Principles to address physical needs, Connecting Principles for attachment needs, and Correcting Principles to disarm fear-based behaviours. While the intervention is based on years of attachment, sensory processing, and neuroscience research, the heartbeat of TBRI® is CONNECTION. Our Refilwe Preschool team spent the first week of this past school term participating in a four-day training in which they received certificates in TBRI® Caregiving. Many of the people who have had the opportunity to learn about TBRI® quickly begin to understand that learning, accepting, and using the TBRI® Toolkit is a life-long journey. The goal of our time in April was to take time to connect and assess where the team is in their TBRI® journey, as well as to continue equipping them with additional support, education, and self-evaluation. We also wanted to provide a time for fun and team building. This included everything from sweeties to a Village-wide scavenger hunt!
We are extremely grateful for the team of precious women that God has gathered at our preschool and are excited about how God is going to use their exposure to the TBRI® toolkit to help LIV Lanseria achieve the purpose of our existence: to glorify God by serving the vulnerable children of the nations.
