Social Worker for LIV Thokomala Community Foster Homes (with assistance to LIV Lanseria)
Location: LIV Lanseria, Johannesburg, Gauteng
Position Type: Full-Time – 1 Year Contract

Purpose of the Role
The Social Worker will provide professional social work services (casework, group work, and community work) to children and families within LIV Thokomala Community Foster Homes, LIV Lanseria and surrounding communities.
This role ensures children receive holistic, trauma-informed, Christ-centred care aligned with LIV’s values, professional social work standards, and Christian ethics.
Key Responsibilities
1. Case Management & Child Protection
- Conduct regular assessments and develop Individual Development Plans (IDPs).
- Maintain statutory case files, reports, court documentation, and panel requirements.
- Monitor children’s statutory orders, assessments, and DSD processes.
- Advocate for the best interests of children in legal, educational, and community settings.
- Prepare reports and statistics for compliance and monitoring.
2. Foster Care & Family Support
- Provide support and guidance to foster carers and children in their care.
- Conduct home visits and ongoing welfare monitoring.
- Facilitate training and support groups for foster carers.
- Monitor and report on the progress and well-being of children in foster homes.
3. Therapeutic & Crisis Services
- Provide counselling and therapeutic group work to children and families.
- Offer crisis intervention and crisis management services.
- Apply trauma-informed, Christ-centred social work practices.
4. Leadership, Compliance & Administration
- Ensure compliance with DSD, DOJ, DOE and SACSSP requirements.
- Maintain accurate documentation for registration and monitoring processes.
- Supervise and provide case oversight to Child and Youth Care Workers (CYCWs).
- Oversee distribution of food and donations with transparency and accountability.
- Keep leadership informed of family and community needs.
5. Multidisciplinary & Community Collaboration
- Work closely with DSD social workers, CPOs and other professionals.
- Contribute to treatment teams and therapeutic programming.
- Attend relevant forums and cluster meetings.
- Network with community role players to strengthen support systems.
6. Village & Organisational Responsibilities
- Uphold LIV’s values and maintain confidentiality.
- Participate in Monday morning devotions and related village activities.
- Carry out additional duties aligned with the role as required.
Minimum Requirements
- Bachelor of Social Work degree.
- Registered with SACSSP (in good standing).
- Minimum 2 years’ experience working with children and families (advantageous).
- Experience in foster care or community-based child protection work (preferred).
- Strong case management and administrative skills.
- Crisis intervention and therapeutic counselling experience.
- Valid driver’s licence and reliable vehicle.
- Spiritually mature, professional, and team-oriented.
Work Hours
- Monday – Thursday: 08:00 – 16:00
- Friday: 08:00 – 15:00
- Occasional evenings and weekends as required.
