LIV DURBAN BOREHOLE PROJECT

LIV Durban’s mission, purpose and passion are to place vulnerable, parentless children into a family environment where they receive unconditional love, spiritual discipleship, care and nurturing and where all their physical needs are taken care of.

One of the most critical physical needs is to have clean drinking water. LIV Durban is executing a project with the main goal of supplying affordable, clean, and reliable drinking water as part of the journey towards building sustainable villages.

Why a Borehole Project?

For 6 weeks after the 2022 floods, LIV Durban was without water. This put a focus on the importance of having a reliable source of drinking water. The biggest impact that this project will have, however, is on relieving the financial pressure that our monthly utility bill is putting on LIV Durban’s finances.

Project Status

In November 2022 the Masimong Foundation sponsored the drilling of our borehole on the LIV Durban site. By God’s grace, we found 3 times more water than what we currently need by only drilling one hole. We tested the water and found that purification is needed to make it suitable to drink.

This didn’t stop us from believing that our initial dreams were possible. Through another sponsorship by the Masimong Foundation, LIV Durban installed the pumps, pipes, and tanks necessary to supply the Foster homes, Owethu clinic, Community skills and Training center, LIV school, and all other activities at LIV Durban, with water.

Completing this project

Now that we are able to pump and store the water on our site, all that is needed is to purify the water. A Reverse Osmosis treatment plant is needed to remove the impurities, to make the water safe to drink. The cost to procure, install and commission this plant is R2 million. The specifications and benefits of this project are as follows:

  • Borehole yield: 6 300 litres per hour
  • Purification plant capacity (feed flow rate): 7 000 litre per hour
  • Cost: R2 million
  • Lifetime savings: R32 million

El Roi Baby Home Currently Closed

The El Roi Baby Home is currently closed as we are working fervently with DSD and our local municipality to re-register our home as a Child and Youth Care Centre.
