LIV4Change is a 6-month discipleship school focusing on identity, vision and serving LIV and the local community. This year 16 young adults from across the UK, Germany and South Africa came to the village to serve and learn more about Christ and the calling he has laid on their lives. The first three months are teaching-focused with time also allotted to serve in different areas – both on the village and out in the community. It is an intense programme designed to push students into areas they are uncomfortable to walk in alone but can find new strength and confidence when they do so with Christ.
We are now 3 months into our time with them and this could mean only one thing…
Holiday Club!
This year’s holiday club was themed around “Under the Sea” (juniors 4-12) and “Going Deeper” (seniors 12+). Holiday club has often proved a challenging time for LIV4change in the past. All prepping and planning are undertaken completely by the students with no assistance provided. It is a time for them to step up and take on the leadership role they have been learning about and act under the authority Christ has given them. LIV children sometimes have other ideas however. High spirits and overexcitement can make for a difficult scenario to control in juniors, whilst encouraging engagement and interest in the youth has sometimes been a challenge.
Jumping In
This year’s LIV4Change fully embraced the challenge. We were incredibly blessed this year by donations from friends, family and home churches, which allowed our students to buy resources and materials previously unavailable to holiday club. The rooms were decorated with beautiful multi-coloured fish, seaweed and coral. Pens, paper and glue were bought for arts and crafts and fun equipment such as woggles, balls and food were purchased for games and activities.
Diving Deep
Both teams did talks based around the same pool of stories: Noah’s Ark, Moses Parting the Red Sea, Jesus Calming the Storm, Jesus Walking on Water, the Woman at the Well and Jonah and the Fish. Whilst the Juniours engaged with acted out skits and Story Boards, the seniors listened attentively to short talks given by the LIV4Change. It was amazing to see the students become the teachers. One of the highlights of the week was the LIV4Change worship night. Five incredibly talented LIV4Change led worship for the youth (and anyone else on the village who wanted to come) in an evening full of praise and spirit lead worship. It was a wonderful night and everyone was sad when the band had to stop, despite running on far longer than originally anticipated.
The week was an overall success with Juniors and Seniors alike engaging and learning more about their creator and not being afraid to go deeper into God and their faith. We are excited about the future of our kids as their faith grows and thankful to LIV4Change and all their hard work, but especially thankful to the God who brought us all together to work his wonders.
