LIV WELDING ACADEMY
The LIV Welding Academy is ready! We have just completed the CHIETA, QCTO and SAIW accreditations. Our first Welding Group, all from the Cottonlands Community, will be starting in September. They will be completing the QCTO 3 year Apprenticeship Programme. We are very excited about all the prospects that the Welding Academy holds. Industry partners can get involved through Work Placement Agreements to place the students in their companies for the practical component of their apprenticeship. Companies can also contact us to offer specific industry-related courses, especially in the Petro-chemical and Fabrication Industries. In addition to these courses, we will also be offering the two-week POP-UP Centre Life Skills Programme.
LIV CULINARY SCHOOL
We have been approached by the International Hotel School to sponsor a group of 20 Culinary School students for the one year Chef’s Diploma Learnership. All of these students are from the Cottonlands Community. This group will start their training on 11 September. They will also be completing the POP-UP Centre Life Skills Programme.
MODERATORS AND ASSESSORS COURSES
In preparation of all the Training Courses, we have started sending some of our staff on the Moderators and Assessors Courses. We are all very excited about this new phase on the LIV Village.
SCREENPRINTING
Nine ladies and one male started a Screen Printing Course at Printing SA on Monday, 19 June. During the first week, this group travelled to Pinetown for the practical component of their course. The second week was run in the Training Classroom at the Welding School. During this week, they were lectured on business plans, budgets, accounts, and any information pertaining to starting their own business. After the course, each student went home with their own screen, tools and ink to start a basic business. They will be receiving their certificates during our Training Launch.
