It is always such a pleasure to share the progress of LIV Training with our followers. LIV Training brings to fruition a vital leg of the overall LIV vision – to train and uplift individuals from our surrounding community, make them employable and equip them to take care of their families.
LIV Welding Academy
The Welding Academy (in association with Afrox) is the pride and joy of LIV Training. Eight of the welding students were invited to the SAPREF shutdown during May and June. Six of these students were employed as Tackers and two of them were employed in the Fitting section. The life lessons and experience they received during this time have been invaluable. Furthermore, two of our students were employed by FFS Refiners as welder interns for the same period of time. They were exposed to so much and they even had an opportunity to do stainless steel welding.
The welding students should be finishing their time at LIV towards the end of October. They will then leave for a one-year internship. Thereafter they will return to the LIV Welding Academy to do their Apprentice Test.
Depending on funding, LIV will be able to enroll a new group of welding students soon!
AET Training
LIV Training started our first AET class in February this year with some of the LIV learners who will not be able to complete their Gr 12 studies. Our first three learners are making us very proud.
During the last week of August, we released three more learners from LIV School into the AET Space. We look forward to developing and releasing LIV stars in this space.
We are currently looking into an opportunity to offer some of our mothers the AET Training as well. This will uplift our moms who have not had the opportunity to finish school.
LIV Durban Staff Training
The LIV Training Department was able to assist and facilitate Maintenance Department on the village over the past few months. We are eager to develop our staff members to become the best they can be. The maintenance workers underwent Fire Training, Confined Spaces Training and Fumes Extraction Training.
In the near future
We are negotiating with BASF for possible Spray-Painting training. We feel that this is an invaluable skill and a way of empowering more individuals to find a job.
We are also still looking at ways to find funding to complete the set up and building of our Training Center. One of the rooms in this center will most probably be a computer training room. We are exploring all the options.
LIV Training has been going from strength to strength and we feel so honoured and privileged to be part of what God is doing in our surrounding community. In everything we do, we aim to create hope through education and this journey has only just begun.
