PARTNER WITH US AND CHANGE A LIFE – using horses to bring healing
We had a dream even before we started the LIV village – to bring horses and children together. This became a reality in October 2016 with the arrival at the Village of experienced horse woman, Donna Van Wyk, and 9 horses. It is a known fact that horses can play a major role in the healing process of broken lives, especially children. There is an amazing clip on Youtube worth watching called “Horses for Orphans”, which we discovered recently, that further encouraged us that we are on the right path to bringing holistic restoration to our children at LIV. The purpose of the horses is multi-focused it also allows children, who show interest in the horses, the opportunity to be schooled in horse riding and horsemanship, including learning how to care for, handle and ride horses. These skills that the children learn can create future employment opportunities for them, but the vision for this project we believe is even more than that – to teach them skills that will help them in every aspect of their lives.
Donna has vast experience with horses – she has worked with horses all over the world and was also a professional show-jumper, and exercised and raced racehorses. She has taught children, teens and adults to ride for 23 years. Her passion is natural horsemanship, which is all about connecting more intimately with the horses – building a relationship based on trust and understanding, and through this process, seeing people healed emotionally and spiritually. Our hope is to see the LIV children experience this same restoration through their time with the horses. Of the 9 horses at LIV. 3 are rescued race-horses that were abandoned, and also in need of restoration.
The monthly budget is as follows:
- R1500 per month per horse (this includes feed, veterinary costs and a grooms salary)
- Sponsor a LIV child for riding lessons at R800 per month (this will go to Donna’s salary)
- Contribution of R8000 per month to Donna’s salary
