LIV Durban celebrated our annual Family Day on Saturday 19th of May. LIV Durban Family Day is the perfect opportunity for relatives and family of our children to come and visit. It’s also a chance for sponsors of children to come and see those who they are supporting and build a relationship with the children, as well as for the kids to say thank you.
The mothers and children all got up very early in the morning to decorate the multi-purpose hall. Each family chooses a spot and brings pillows, cushions, blankets, chairs and decorations to transform their spot into a cosy reflection of their home. The mothers make delicious food and bring them in baskets for the whole family to share.
True to LIV’s style, the day was filled with fun and games. We started the day with beautiful worship, led by one of our talented boys. It was amazing to see people from on and off the village coming together to worship and thank the same mighty God of love. A short talk by Jonathan McCririe (LIV Leadership) followed about what the day was about and the importance of family and how God loves us all as his children and how He is our perfect Father.
After this, the clusters performed for the crowd. There was singing and dancing of all different kinds which the children had been preparing for weeks. These were judged by the show judges and prizes were given out to the best teams, as well as to the houses which were best decorated, dressed and first to arrive. The mothers then cracked open their picnic baskets and dished out the delicious lunch they had prepared. The whole village was sharing and eating together with staff, volunteers and sponsors all coming together to celebrate the LIV family.
The afternoon was capped off with games and activities run by our sports coaches. Balloons and balls rolled around the multi-purpose hall as children, mothers and staff all got involved in the fun.
Family is something we truly value at LIV. God is a God of love and relationship and nowhere is this more powerful than in family. We recognise Him as the Father and Head of our amazing LIV family and are so thankful that He has provided us with each other – especially for the children who now know what it is to have a mother who loves them and a Father in heaven who loves and cherishes them beyond their wildest dreams.
