Athletics Day – 27th September 2017. Some of the best memories of everyone’s childhood is probably the hype and build up around a sports day. The LIV children are also crazy about sports days. Especially our annual Athletics Day. This year it took place on the 27th of September and what a fun day it was! We were blessed with beautiful weather despite the pouring rain the previous day and the day afterwards. LIV School divides into four houses: “The Warriors,” “The Eagles,” “Rock of Ages” and “Solid Rock.” Our kids compete in different track items and every year we see amazing talent but also beautiful perseverance and great team spirit. We encouraged every child to compete and stood absolutely amazed at the great attitude and sportsmanship shown throughout the day. The highlight of the day, as with every year, was the LIV staff sprints and the relays. The staff sprints ended on a high note when the LIV School Principal and LIV Manager were the winners of the two male 100m heats. The relays caused for excitement and drama; although batons were dropped some of the races ended beautifully. After many cheers and even a few tears, the winning team was “Rock of Ages.” The day was ended off with a friendly tug-of-war. This caused for a whole lot of laughter before the trophies were handed out to the champions. LIV realises that sport can really bring people together and cultivate healthy competitiveness but also allows for character building and growing in persistence. A lot of our Hope Stories involve sports. For some of our children running, for instance, kept them from pursuing destructive lifestyles and rather stream their energy and focus into something that not only builds up their physical bodies, but challenges them to excel mentally. We will never stop promoting the development of sport in our school. Athletics Day is definitely a highlight on our annual calendar.
