It truly was an extreme home makeover at LIV Durban this Mandela Day! On the 15th of July we received the first troops of volunteers, who eagerly tackled the work at hand in the homes. The teams worked with such enthusiasm painting the walls of our LIV homes and by the end of the day the clusters were brighter and truly alive as children marveled at the difference in their homes.
On day 2 of Mandela day we were so excited to receive even more excited volunteers ready to give their 67 minutes. We saw the Madiba magic come to life in how efficiently and passionately the teams served our mums and children in the homes. The vision of LIV became a reality in their hearts and it is evident as all our LIV houses were revamped and given a fresh coat of paint in the living room, splash back for the outside sink and brand new shower rails and curtains were installed. The floors, windows and children’s bedrooms were painted giving the homes a sparkling new feel
Mum Nombuso (House 67):
“The makeover has helped us a lot, it’s been more than 5 years since the house have been painted, the walls were worn out, dirty and the celling boards stained, the children’s bedroom were the worst. Now you walk into the house and it’s radiant and fresh, the paint has given life back to the home. We are so happy and appreciative of the work that has been done. Thank you for sacrificing your time and resources to liven up our home. “
Mum Nonhlanhla (House 910)
“My house has changed a lot, I appreciate all the work the team has put in. The floors were the worst and I love my new floors; my house looks fresh and you can definitely tell the difference. The children love their bedrooms and especially the bright yellow feature wall. When I returned to the house, I couldn’t believe it was the same house. “
Mum Sithembile (House 103):
“The last time the houses were painted was in 2016, and now that they’ve been painted, it’s so easy to wash the walls. The house is so beautiful, it has really made a difference and I love the new colours and having being able to choose them makes my home more personal. It truly has made us feel so loved and important for you to think of us LIV mothers and come and serve us. Thank you.“
