As my family and I moved to LIV village nearly a year ago, we were trying to make our home warm and cozy when a thought dropped into my heart…”How wonderful would it be for the Mums and Children to have their houses transformed into homes too.” I know that thought was a dream in Father God’s heart for His precious children at LIV. It was also to my amazement that the Homes Management team had just done an audit on all the homes where so many practical needs were accounted, so the timing was perfect for the project.
The name Extreme LIV Makeover was based on the Extreme Makeover Program in the States. If you are familiar with the program you will agree that there is never a dry eye after seeing the faces of those that are the recipients of such extravagant giving. What a beautiful representation of our Father in heaven who is so generous, abundant and faithful.
The flyer was advertised on the 31st December 2015 and within three months all 35 homes had 35 teams signed up. It was truly a joy to see how many businesses, churches, friends and families responded with a big YES in their hearts.
There are no words to describe Saturday, 2nd April 2016. Cars and bakkies streamed onto the village from 8am and offloaded tables, chairs, curtains, rugs, crockery, cutlery, photo frames, pot plants, shelves, duvet covers, linen, mirrors and the list goes on. Friends flew from both the States and the UK to be part of the transformation. 35 unique canvases were painted for each home, each of the 157 children received their own cushion with their name individually sewed on and professional photographers took photographs of each family and all were beautifully framed on freshly painted walls. Teams worked from 8am to 3pm while the Mums and children were entertained by the Soul Survivor Team from the UK. What a moment it was to end off the day worshipping and thanking the Lord for all He had done through His people.
“The big reveal” took place and there was not a dry eye in sight. Both those that gave and those that received will never forget that day. We felt the Father’s lavish love most tangibly and for that we are eternally grateful. This was our prayer.. “Your Kingdom come, Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven” and it was answered!
