Easter should be the most celebrated holiday under the sun, and at LIV Durban we have come to understand how important the death, burial and resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ are.
1Corrinthians 15:12 says “If Christ has not been raised, our preaching is useless and so is our faith.”
This is why the resurrection of Christ is so important, if he had not risen, he would be just like any other prophet from the Bible.
He incarnated, lived among men without any blemish, was crucified for our sins, died a painful death, and was buried, but the grave could not hold His body. On the third day, He was raised from the dead and never died again.
Again, if he had risen and died again, HE was going to be like any other person who was raised from the dead in the Bible, i.e. the Shunammite’s son, the Zarephath widow’s son, the Moabite robber, the son of the widow of Nain, Jairus daughter, Lazarus, Tabitha and Euticus. All these died and were raised but later died again. That means only Jesus resurrected and never died again.
With this in mind, this past Easter we started with The Seven Words of Jesus on the Cross. Of the seven speakers who spoke on the seven words, it was so beautiful to see one of our children sharing so beautifully. It was a joyful gathering of the Village church and our community church. This year we also had a service on Saturday, which was hosted by our mothers who did the worship and Mrs Farasi shared a very powerful word on Passover.
Sunday HE IS RISEN!!!!!! The tomb was empty. We gathered again to celebrate His resurrection.
In Romans 6:10 the word of God reminds us that the Spirit of God, who raised CHRIST FROM THE DEAD, lives in us. This is so powerful as we live a victorious life through the risen Christ who operates within us. So that morning pastor Farasi preached on the power of resurrection and even taught on the nature of this resurrection, thus how the three ladies discussed how they would deal with the rock. It wasn’t the rock only. These are the three things the authorities had put in place to make sure that Christ would not rise: 1, the one-ton rock, 2, the seal on the rock and 3, soldiers guarding.
Despite all this, Matthew 28 records what happened. Sunday early in the morning there was an earthquake, an Angel came from heaven and removed the rock and sat on it. The soldiers were in shock, and they were like dead men. That means when the women got to the tomb they found the rock removed and the grave was empty. That’s how powerful the message of resurrection is.
As a community of believers, as a way of celebrating our risen king, we had breakfast together after the church service. However, we are looking forward to always improving the way we celebrate Easter should resources allow. Next year we look forward to inviting people far and wide to come and worship together with us and celebrate also the risen King together.
