Minimum requirements

- Grade 12 Certificate
- Certificate in Child and Youth Care qualification as recognised by HWSETA/ National Diploma in Child and Youth Care Development
- Registration with South African Council for Social Services Professions as a Child and Youth Care Worker
- Proof of current Registration with the South African Council for Social Services Professions as Child Youth Care Worker
- Child protection register and police clearance certificate
- Strong organisational and administrative skills
- Verbal and written communication and interpersonal relationship skills
- Problem-solving skills
- Must have a broad knowledge of the Children’s Act, Regulations, and a thorough understanding of the normal growth and developmental needs of children and youth Demonstrated ability to work with children and youth with a diverse background
- Demonstrated listening and information seeking skills that promote communication and lead to a co-operative approach to problem-solving within a multidisciplinary setting
- Demonstrated ability to adhere to policies and respond to supervision
- Must have knowledge and ability to assist children with their schoolwork
- Must have broad knowledge and understanding of HIV/AIDS and ART
- Fluency in IsiZulu and competency in English are required
- Must be Non-smoker and non – drinker
- Ability to work on weekends and holidays
- Be a mature and responsible person who is prepared to work according to LIV’s Christian values
- Willingness to reside with the children.
Responsibilities
- The child and youth care worker is responsible for the provision of basic developmental care of children and youth where their emotional, spiritual, cognitive and social needs are protected
- Life skill teaching, crisis intervention, planning and participating in educational, social and recreational activities
- Assists with the implementation of programmes and activities for children and youth based on their identified developmental needs
- Participate in a multi-disciplinary team
- Direct care, supervision and development of the children and youth, ensuring that each child and youth receive the highest possible level of care and support, including consistent emotional and physical nurture suitable to the developmental needs of each child
- Compliance with LIV policies, and to CYCC standards as defined in the Children’s Act
- Adhere to child and youth care work code of ethics and programmatic standard operating procedures and principles
- Develop a positive rapport with children and youth while serving as a role model to create a safe and loving environment
- Maintain a hazard free and orderly household, prepare meals, administer medication in accordance with doctor’s guidance, complete all required medication charts, forms and incident reports
- Attend mandatory trainings, workshops, and meetings as required by the organisation to enhance professional growth.
